Our Community

We are all about our local community. Rural Australia has been built on communities that help each other out. Country shows, sports events, pony camps and picnic races all succeed based on everyone joining in and doing their bit.

We don’t see it being any different in Sydney. You will see us in your local schools, sports clubs and at fairs with sleeves rolled up and getting stuck into it.

A window into country life

One of the central themes that we have built our business on is transparency. From designing the butchery with large display windows into our cool room and preparation room to displaying the national vendor declarations (NVD’s) that are proof of origin of our meat. We want you to know as much as possible about all the stages that your food goes through before it ends on your plate. That includes introducing the people who produce our meat for their livelihood. We will have our farmers in store from time to time to answer any questions you may have about the origin of 1888 Certified’s meat. We will also have our farmer’s stories in-store and online so you can see how proud they are of their efforts and why that extra effort adds so much value to you.

Education and employment

A large part of being part of a great local community is contributing. We not only want to give you a great tasting healthy alternative, we want to educate people about the meat industry. It’s not just kids in schools. If you have any questions about how our livestock is raised , ask our staff. We are farmers . No one is in a better position to answer your questions.

We also intend to support our local community by employing locally. If you are interested in either the butcher or livestock as a potential career come and speak to us.

Our Farms

Country towns and the farms that surround them support each other. The farmers need labour, schools & equipment suppliers to name only a few of the services that keep the wheels turning. Without the farms the towns would struggle for a reason to exist.

Our farmers have all been actively involved in their local community throughout their lives ( this goes way back to Charles Crichton in 1888 who was Shire president & and involved with the Pastoral & Agricultural association for over 40 years). They are proud of the work they have done and will continue to do.

Country kids grow up knowing where their food comes from. We want you to know where your meat is coming from and to experience the passion we have for the land. We will have open days on our farms so that families can see where it all happens. There is a whole lot more to the story than the meat section at your supermarket!

If we can be a gateway to the country for city people then everyone’s a winner.

Our Chefs

One section of the community that is dear to butchers and our customers alike are Chefs. We will be supporting 12 Chefs. 6 in our local city community and 6 from country towns. All the Chefs on our website work with local seasonal produce and use only the best quality ingredients. Their stories and some of their recipes are featured on our website. Try out some of the recipes and then try out their restaurants in person. You won’t be disappointed.

Let us know what you think. If something new opens up and you think it’s worth supporting, please drop us a line, we are always on the lookout for the next great meal!

Our People

A business is only as good as the people in it. At 1888 Certified our teams love what they do (Yes some people like cutting & serving raw meat!). People give their best and are better at it, if they believe in what they are doing (this may not apply to golf!) .

Our staff believe that they are doing something special. They are part of a movement that is bringing healthier , more humane produce to people who not only care about themselves but the impact that it has on the environment today and in the future.

Our goal is to work with people from our local community (both city and country) to share our experience and great produce.
